ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A person is dead after a large tree fell on a home in the Grove Park neighborhood in Atlanta early Sunday morning.

Firefighters said they got the call around 4:50 a.m. as storms were rolling through the area along the 700 block of Matilda Lane.

The daughter told Atlanta News First that she had to dig her mother out of the home. Others were able to escape, but the one person was still trapped, she said.

Crews worked for hours trying to get to the other person.
