Daytona 500 results: William Byron emerges from wreck-filled final laps to score back-to-back wins

  • William Byron emerged unscathed and took the checkered flag just before a yellow. He is the 66th and now 67th Daytona 500 champion
  • We’re on OT. If one lap is complete, the next flag ends it.
  • 5 laps to go. Christopher Bell wrecked from the front of the outside row and collected Ryan Preece who, for the second time in his career at Daytona has gone airborne.
  • Bell’s and Preece’s window nets were down almost immediately, an encouraging sign.
  • Eight to go. Austin Cindric needs to hold off a pair of strong JGR cars to retain this.
  • Lap 186. The big one strikes and it takes out the two best cars of the night in Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney, among others.

Obviously you all saw that develop as it happened. Logano tried to go middle, Stenhouse covered late, then that left Logano in no man’s land and bobbled and it triggered the whole thing. https://t.co/onCBjA1yGL

  • Lap 163 for debris. Final (potential) stops coming under caution.
  • “Fuel window is open,” says Mike Joy on Fox. “Final pit stops in the offing.”
  • Ryan Blaney leads the way.
  • The Team Penske fords have been dominant, leading 87 OF 130 laps so far, as Ryan Blaney wins Stage 2 with Austin Cindric and a resurgent Joey Logano lurking.

  • From the tail end of the lead lap with engine trouble to running between P10-15 with 10 to go in Stage 2

Most…but not all…are good on fuel to the end of the stage. Much like stage one you’ll see some drop back trying to save.
