HAZARD, Ky. (WKRC/CBS Newspath) – Heavy rains and dangerous flooding swept through the Southeast U.S. on Saturday, submerging cars and buildings in Kentucky and causing mudslides that blocked roads in Virginia. Both states, along with Tennessee and Arkansas, were under flood warnings as much of the East endured another round of harsh, soggy weather.

At least nine people died from the severe flooding in Kentucky and prompted a federal disaster declaration.

The National Weather Service warned residents to stay off the roads due to the hazardous conditions. Forecasters also predicted snowstorms over the weekend in the Northeast and warned of the threat of tornadoes in the Mississippi Valley.
