Any player will tell you it’s tough being injured. If you miss one game or 10 games you’re always champing at the bit to get back. I know I can be the difference here so it was really nice to get on the scoresheet again.
I’m really happy for the lads and also for the fans because it was a proper atmosphere today.
It’s important to be alive in the box and sniff out those free goals – they count the same as a 25-yarder into the top corner! Really happy with that one.
[On his darts/ssshh celebration] There was a bit of outside noise this week [from Roy Keane on the Stick to Football podcast]. People have their opinions but I wanted to do my talking on the pitch. The gaffer always talks about blocking out the outside noise but sometimes it’s difficult because it’s constantly in your face these days.
It’s about responding in the right way. I did that today, I was the matchwinner and I’m really delighted.
We don’t want to make excuses but the last few months have been really difficult. You could put out an XI of senior players who were injured.
Spurs win back-to-back Premier League games for only the second time this season. The first time was against the same teams, Brentford and Manchester United, back in September.

87 min: Spurs substitution Wilson Odobert replaces Son Heung-min. This would be a big result for Spurs, whose last home win in the Premier League was against Aston Villa at the start of November.
85 min Fernandes’s corner leads to a mini-scramble before Casemiro’s shot on the turn is blocked.
83 min Zirkzee fresh-airs an admittedly awkward volley from Garnacho’s cross. Man Utd have created enough that a draw wouldn’t flatter them.

72 min: Just wide from Zirkzee! Mazraoui’s terrific cross is headed across goal and wide by Zirkzee, eight yards out. He was stretching and couldn’t get enough purchase on the header, though it was still an excellent chance.
Moments later, Hojlund’s shot from the edge of the area is held by Vicario.
71 min Zirkzee’s imaginative first-time pass almost puts Hojlund through on goal. Danso had to stretch to poke the ball back to Vicario, a vital piece of defending.
70 min Son, who scored from a corner against United in the Carabao Cup, goes for goal again. This time it lands on the roof of the net.
69 min Spurs break four-on-four with Johnson on the ball. Eventually Son tries to beat Mazraoui with a stepover and hits a shot that deflects behind for another corner.

55 min: Chance for Man Utd Zirkzee releases Garnacho, who gets his shot away a split-second before being challenged by Porro. Vicario pushes it away and Garnacho doesn’t make the most of the rebound. The angle was tight by that stage so he tried to pick out Hojlund instead. It was caught out by Danso.
54 min Dalot, wrongly flagged offside, has a shot beaten away by Vicario at the near post. Actually the referee allowed play to continue so, had Dalot scored, it would have gone to VAR.
52 min Spurs have started the second half well. Spence rolls Mazraoui superbly on the left and crosses low towards Kulusevski. He gets a slight touch and Tel stabs the ball over the bar. It was a tough chance as he was stretching away from goal and it came at hime quickly.

51 min “I can’t be the only one who sighs at the sight of James Maddison in a Spurs shirt and thinks he (a United fan) should be in red (and not Mason Mount),” says Adam Roberts.
I remain convinced that, if Mount can stay fit, he’ll be a brilliant player for United. But I know what you mean, Maddison is a much more charismatic player.
48 min Kulusevski chases a lost cause to win a corner on the right. Porro’s outswinger is headed away by Maguire. Spurs dump the ball back in the box and Tel’s volley from the edge of the area is comfortably saved by Onana.

Peep peep! Spurs lead through James Maddison’s opportunistic early goal. They’ve been the better team in a relatively poor game, though Man Utd had a superb chance to equalise when Alejandro Garnacho smashed over the bar from 10 yards.
45 min The last 10-15 minutes have been pretty scruffy. There’s no doubt Spurs deserve to be ahead but the match hasn’t had the quality you’d expect from the teams who are among the favourites to win the Europa League.
42 min Maddison turns elegantly away from Mazraoui and finds Son on the left. His cross is headed up in the air by Maguire and claimed by Onana.

At times Spurs have had three or four men passing the ball around him. “It’s embarrassing… you wouldn’t see this iun under-9s football.”

In fairness, they’re without 12 senior players. Are you saying it would have been better to have a bench of Mike Phelan, Paddy Roche, Gary Neville and Terry Cooke?
